Review of Sexual Harassment in Victorian Courts

Individual experiences

The Review actively sought to be informed by people who have experienced or witnessed sexual harassment within Victoria’s court system. While the Review will not address or investigate individual complaints, it established a process to receive information from individuals who wanting to share their experience by:

  • Making an individual submission (in writing or over the telephone)
  • Participating in a confidential telephone interview.

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC) supported the Review as a research partner by conducting interviews and receiving submissions about individuals’ experiences of sexual harassment in the court system and VCAT.

Submissions are now closed. Publication of the final report is proposed for March 2021.

Sharing your experience with the Review

You can provide information to the Review and share your experiences of sexual harassment through the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC). VEOHRC is an independent body with responsibilities under Victoria’s Human Rights Law, and is strongly experienced in the sensitive, careful management of issues of sexual harassment, and has in place all the systems and processes required to protect the interests of individuals making reports.

Individuals who provide information can be assured of your privacy and confidentiality.

Providing information to the Review through this channel does not involve making a formal complaint, although that avenue is available for those who want to make a complaint now or in the future.

Information provided by you will be de-identified. With your consent the information will help identify key issues, themes and insights to inform the Review and ensure its recommendations meet the needs of individuals.

We know that sharing these experiences can be distressing. If you contact VEOHRC to share information about your experience you will be offered information and referrals to support services. A list of key support service contacts is also available on our support page.

VEOHRC will also be able to provide you with information about your options for making a formal complaint now or in future.

Submissions to the Review closed in early November 2020.
